Improvisation class with K.Coe
Neglected places
At the end of previous session me and Julia went around the building looking for a neglected place. We chosen the little space near the lifts. We were trying to pick up the discarded things, noticing sounds around, the atmosphere. Some of the things I noted in my artist journal was :
Social life. / indviduals.... very different and so similar; very personal and individual but very interrelated.
footsteps.
passing through.
doors; corridor; lift; wheelchair lift;
music/ singing somewhere on the background.
becoming louder and louder and louder and then absolutely quiet.
We left the space thinking about what is left behind, what is left alone and with an intension to bring some neglected things next week. So when we came back to the same place having some random stuff, we were supposed to change the space highlighting and using the things that was already there. However, when we looked at the stuff we picked and brought, something completely different happened! we didn't highlighted the space itself, but we made it alive in a different way - we kind of made a piece about students nights out! We found out that everything we had somehow just made sense and also connected to the space as well, even I would call it pushing the boundaries rather than fulfilling the task we were given.
That was very interesting task and idea we worked with, and the way we ended up was even more interesting as it was so unexpected! very good material for visual arts, work with objects and dance as well, if wanted.
